History

The American association of Indian Nurses is a non profit organization registered in the state of New Jersey and affiliated to the National Association of Indian Nurses –USA.

This association was started by a group of Nurses working for the St Barnabas Health care system Hospitals The formation of this association was initiated by Ms Josefina Barredo, Vice President International recruitment of the system .The first meeting was held at Edison in a restaurant , and the need for establishing this association was explored. The second meeting was then held at the residence of Ms Barredo

The System organized a summer picnic at Edison ,it was then that the executive Body was elected .in July 2006. The first system wide meeting to increase membership was held at Newark Beth Israel Medical centre and Nurses from Robert Wood Johnson University Hospital and UMDNJ joined in and the executive committee was expanded. The second meeting was held at Clara  Maass Medical Center Executive board room and more members joined in.. Two executive members attended the inaugural session of the National Association of Indian Nurses at Houston Texas in May2007. This set the momentum for the association to grow and meetings were held via conference calls, homes of executive members and restaurants over a meal. The vision, mission and objectives were compiled and the registration process was completed and the association was incorporated. The first National conference was held at Chicago in 2008 and some of the executive members attended the same . The association has representation from all leading hospital system in new Jersey , the executive members work together to carry the vision and mission of the association

Vision –American Association of Indian Nurses –NJ2  will be the professional association that acts on behalf of all Indian American Nurses and nursing students In the State of NewJersey, unifying, supporting and empowering its members at all levels to reach their highest potential in their professional practice, actively participating and collaborating with other organizations in the community to deliver the best quality healthcare possible.

Mission- of the association is to foster professional development of nurses of Indian origin or heritage through higher education, knowledge, and skills to become the best we can, as well as create opportunities to network with other professional organizations and institutions, and be actively involved in local and national event
